ABOUT ZAC

With a CV that reads like an atlas of the racing world, Hong Kong Champion Jockey Zac Purton’s quest for further honours has not diminished. The Australian born superstar has captured elite races across the globe with Group 1 wins in England, Singapore, Japan, Hong Kong and of course his homeland of Australia where his journey to the top started in humble surroundings. Zac began his riding apprenticeship in the small coastal town of Coffs Harbour, 500km’s north of Sydney and such was his domination at an early age he achieved the rare feat of winning the Brisbane Premiership title whilst still an apprentice in 2003.

A successful stint in Sydney followed finishing second (twice) in the Sydney Premiership – regarded as one of the strongest jockey colonies in the world – before the move to Hong Kong in 2007. Over 1740 HK winners later and with seven hard fought champion jockey titles secured, Zac is a sporting icon and fan favourite in the Asian racing mecca. The only jockey in history to have won all of Hong Kong’s Group 1’s, Zac lies second on the all-time HK win list. Zac now holds the record for riding the most number of winners in a single Hong Kong racing season. A total of 179 wins. A three time winner of the LONGINES International Jockey Challenge and the winner of the World Super Jockey Series in Japan, Zac is well established as one of the World’s leading riders.

A true family man, Zac is married to Nicole, daughter of NZ Hall Of Fame jockey Jimmy Cassidy. They have two young children – Roxy and Cash and home has been Sha Tin Racecourse for nearly 18 years now. Being based in HK has not stopped Zac from winning headline races around the world as he regularly flies with HKJC permission back to Australia where he has won two Doncaster Handicaps and a Caulfield Cup amongst a host of big race wins. Riding HK trained horses overseas has ensured many treasured highlights including Little Bridge winning the Kings Stand Stakes at the fabled Royal Ascot meeting in 2012.

Now 41 years old, the dedication to his career combined with his stringent physical fitness regime and renowned mental toughness, ensures that Zac will remain at the top of his profession for many years to come.
